SAD SAD SAD DAY AT OUR HOUSE!!!!!!

At our house there are boxes and boxes of special memories packed away....packed away for the day when there is room to display or the boys move out, you get the picture.

We have a very sacred area in our home, it is not the china cabinet (although that does rank in sacredness), it is not the tool bench nor even by shelves of books including my Dad's dictionary from third grade......no our sacred area is an area that you MUST be privileged enough to enter and those who do enter do so with EXTREME CAUTION......

OUR LEGO AREA.

This summer our Lego corner turned into to the WHOLE back end of our basement. Each of the boys has a side with table and their own shelves, etc... ( Is there a deal of turning plastic Lego's and Rubbermaid containers into college money??? Are the Lego Company and Rubbermaid planning a nation wide take over???) O.K. so you can now picture our basement/ family room also known as the MAN CAVE. Noah alone has spent countless hours this summer creating the top of the air hockey table and two card tables worth of creations that connect and turn and swivel. we have researched parts and pieces off e-bay, we have turned this into that and that into this, also, video taping this and making movies with walking Lego men.......where is this going?????

Today, while listening to a young gal spill her life story, trying to be of encouragement to her etc.....doing my Christan sista thing......her son, a boy we know well but has not been over here at all, in 20 minutes was able to destroy the WHOLE thing there was not a single Lego left on any table..there were Lego's in my washing machine which is in the other room. Noah came running up begging for help....this boys mom came down and started dumping them all together thinking this was helping in picking up. Now, this is not a young child of two or three he is the same age as NOAH... I am still sick to my stomach for Noah and Jacob. We are talking A Million Legos all over the place.

So, I had this other Labor Day Blog thoughts planned but this is more pressing at the moment. Labor Day will spent in the basement where there is a strange quietness ,a non spoken grief amongst those who enter. The boys are shaking their heads in disbelief, putting their hands on each others shoulders saying "look ,I found the part" or " here is it"

Again, this is our corner of the world and boy are we devastated here. Please do not think that we are thinking of those that Mark is dealing with during the evacuation..we do know our priorities but DOG GONE IT!!!! this makes me mad! We about to tuck it in for the night and awaken in the morning with a renewed imagination to once again tackle the LEGO WORLD.

Here we go again.....

Three years ago this week-end we were in MAJOR turmoil at our house......we were on stand by with the phone waiting on news of my dear friend Rachael who was very sick. Time has come and gone and Rachael is the sweet person she has always been in my life. PRAYER!!!!

Three years ago this week-end we were also in MAJOR turmoil here in our city....Katrina had hit and we were swamped with ways to help....food, clothing, housing those who had evacuated to our area from areas that were in danger. Our school opened their doors to children and their families, our church served food and found shelter for many as well.

This week-end we are awaiting GUSTAV. Mark has been in Hurricane training on Thursday and Friday, preparing his staff to handle the command center, accept patients and their families. This morning at 5:00 we were awakened by the phone call....THE COMMAND CENTER IS NOW OPEN. Mark has been at the Hosp. since this morning and is still there as I type (11:00 p.m.) They were accepting planes full of people coming to this area for shelter and relief. We will see very little of him over the next few days. I am preparing baskets and treats to take to his staff to keep them motivated while they work these long hours.

Pray that GUSTAV will be gentle. I am sure you are all watching the news and hoping like we are that the people in these areas will take the help and leave now.

PRAY PRAY PRAY.

A Day In Pictures

A Day in the Life of ME...... I decided to take pictures of my day. It started at 5:45 this a.m..

Fixing Eggs for Noah to send him off to school....Mark left for work and I started with laundry. This is what my day could have been: Knowing that I needed to get Jacob up at 7:00 take him to school at 7:50 come back keep doing laundry...get ready for my lunch duty job, go to lunch at 10:30, work until 1:00 come back and keep doing laundry, pick up Jacob at 2:40, come home and wait for Noah to come home at 3:40, start dinner, take Jacob to Karate at 6:15, get stuff ready for school tomorrow, homework, watch Big Brother tonight, try to Find Salvation at the Dairy Queen, Watch the DNC on T.V., start working on stuff for the week-end...ETC...ETC...ETC....

Here is how my day went (5:45 to 4:00)

Noah up at 5:45 sent him to meet the bus at 6:45, Sent Mark to work at 6:30, I kept folding clothes thinking at 7:00 I will begin as the above paragraph states but.....Jacob came in at 6:50 bright red cheeks and a temp of 100....I do know that to some that is not that high and might have sent him on but looking at my stack laundry and thinking gosh we would not have to leave the house today if he was sick so I made the motherly decision to say OH MY ,YOU MUST STAY HOME TODAY. To say the least there was NO argument from my sick child. So now let me restart my day........I looked at Harrison and thought maybe we should just tuck back into bed and watch Good Morning America....Harrison read my mind and ran straight to the bed....much to his disappointment I told him no we must get the laundry done. Thinking to myself and feeling totally horrible that Noah left for school in wrinkled clothes ( now those of you with boys know that he did not even notice or care) so my Nanny kicked me from somewhere.....see picture #2. Today was her kind of day.....I ironed EVERYTHING today...tablecloths all clothes that came out of the dryer and even my pillow cases, YES you read that right. tonight when Mark lays his sweet little head down it will be on a freshly pressed pillow case. If you knew my Nanny you understand this strange desire that overcame me today. I must confess....i did not iron the many many pairs of tighty whiteys I washed today ( yes, she would have). Nanny has been gone three years but today would have been a great day for her to be here with me.

I ironed my fall tablecloths so that by the middle of Sept. I can get out all my pumpkins and baskets...my FAVORITE Day even more than decorating for Christmas.

picture #3 my iron..... we have become one today

picture#4 my two phones that did not ring ONCE from 5:45a.m. until 4:00

picture#5 the perfect snack while ironing and watching picture #6 Sandra Lee from the food network....she is my favorite because she is a THEME person and loves to set the table with a theme.

picture #7 my "sick" child with his Lego creation...he spent the whole day in his Lego corner..except for when I found him asleep on the couch---so see he really needed a rest and didn't feel well.

picture #8 Harrison hiding under the ironing board and waiting for Noah

picture#9 Noah after another GREAT day at school

now with all my laundry done and a day filled with anticipation that fall is approaching..my pumpkins and cooler weather can't be too far away (it was 98 here today) and blogging the longest blog ever....I can now return to Finding Salvation at the Dairy Queen.... my book club selection for this month --picture #1 the Author Susan Gregg Gilmore is coming to our book club next week so I need to finish it this week-end.

So that is a day in my life in my little corner of the world...thanks for sticking with my very long blog and enjoy your Holiday week-end.

Friday 8/22/08

Our week has "ended" ....it is Friday night and Mark and I are sharing the laundry duty, Jacob is playing guitar hero, Noah is over at a friends for the night, I am blogging and playing on facebook,Harrison is wondering if anyone wants him on their laps.

The first week of middle school has ended MUCH MUCH better than it started. The Bus Driver thought school started at 8:00 when in fact it starts at 7:35 so no wonder she was getting them there late. So we are looking forward to a great second week.

Noah and I went to Target this afternoon to get stuff.....can you believe it we left there without a book. but.......Barnes and Noble is in the same shopping area so yes....we stopped. We were actually looking for a couple of the books that he will be reading this year. He wants to get a head start on them. So Whew! a trip to Target and I still got a book.

Have a Happy Week-end.

First Day of School --- Take 2

We are at two schools this year.....

Jacob's first day was great and he has an excellent teacher for third grade. Many of his same friends (the girls) are still in his class. However there are two girls that are not and at lunch they let me know how sad they are about that.

Last night at dinner...china buffet to celebrate.... he was telling us that the 4 other kids that sit with him in their little group are trouble makers and talk alot. we of course told him his teacher probably put him there to be an example of a great student. Jacob's reply to us." don't you know how exhausting it is to be a great example all the time."

Noah, let us just say that middle school is a HUGE HUGE ADJUSTMENT!!! we are only on day two but it has to get better each day....right????? He is not with any of his elementary friends (not one!) I think all of his classes will be great. I think the hardest part is that he has nobody to share in all the experiences with that he knows. He is good a meeting now friends but that does take time. The bus passed him up the first day and today it got him to school late. Noah is in the advanced classes and in band. luckily there is one friend that will be in his GT class. So like I said everyday will get better and better. Remember when you were in 6th grade???

So, we are headed to bed early tonight after a special treat of Hot Apple Blossoms (from Trader Joe's) with a little cool whip on top. (they are like apple dumplings). It is actually a little on the cool side outside so the we are pretending it is a cool fall night. Tomorrow will be another day and we will just take what we get!

Here's to better school days ahead.

A conversation overheard .....

noah....let's try it

noah.... hey is it does work

guess i have been had all these years...great mom I am!

New Subject: I hate it when people only respond to half the answer...listen to the WHOLE answer and facts before making a judgement. it is true we only hear what we want to hear..especially if we are scared and out of comfort zones

saturday

We decided to go to the visitation for Ethan's mom, Anna on Friday night. It worked out much better as Ethan got to visit with Noah and two other good friends. I can not imagine leaving my boys at this age...it is so sad. Ethan and his Dad live close by and we all go to the same school.

Today we are in back to school zone...cleaning rooms, both boys have their stack of uniforms ready for the week, after dinner we are going to label all of Jacob's things and put into his back pack, Harrison and Noah have made a few practice runs to the bus stop..he is timing himself to see just how late he can sleep each morning....this is his first run with the bus. The bus like middle school is just a "right of passage" everyone has to do it once. He may not ride as much in the a.m. but he will ride it home most days.

We had open house/meet your teacher night at jacob's school this past week-- he has a GREAT teacher and I look forward to a great year for him. Noah, we will find out monday a.m. I think/trust that will fine as well.

Have a great rest of the week-end. Enjoy the rest of your summer if you are not back in school yet.

Just an update from our little corner of the world.

READ READ READ

My pool and reading days are just about over...boo hoo

I just read( in 2 days) Sold by Patricia McCormick you can also see a review by others on the Selfari site.

It is about a Country girl from the hills of Nepal and she is sold at the age of 13 into the sex rings of India. It is a quick read. It is also a very haunting read. The book is written in free verse. The Author did much research and did a great job with this very sad story.

If you are in my area you can borrow it (cindy b.) I found this book in the young adult section (yes, at Target) however it is a very mature topic for some young girls.

Happy Reading!!

What is it about TARGET??

What is it about TARGET???

Buying a Popcorn Combo for $1.00 to have while shopping is a good thing
isn't it interesting that you can get the very same popcorn combo at the movies for $8.50

Browsing up and down EVERY SINGLE isle ALONE is a good thing

Looking at EVERY single book they have is a good thing

Bringing home 2 new books for me and a new book for Jacob is a good thing

You know when you go to Target to get Toilet paper you always buy a book

If you go to Target 3 days later to pick up laundry soap you must always buy a book

Noah is saving for MORE Legos so writing down every set they have was a good thing for Noah

Finding things on sale is a good thing

Finally finding the PERFECT dog food container that will actually match the kitchen is a good thing

Did I mention that browsing EVERY SINGLE isle ALONE is a good thing

Watching all the frantic back to school shoppers...knowing I already bought all mine a month ago is a good thing
Have you ever watched the panicked Mom's shopping for supplies and the kids are standing there "like, who cares". One Mom was screaming "they are out of the 4 pack ,they are out of the 4 pack" ...the Dad was trying to get her to buy 2 two packs but she needed a 4 pack..poor dad!

Why do people think they won't be able to find crayons and notebook paper later on..do they only sell them in August?

Why do snacks bought at Target taste better??

Spending Saturday afternoon ALONE in Target is a GOOD THING!!!
